Carol Marine's Painting a Day

  CAROL MARINE'S PAINTING A DAY  10/29/18

Here's another one from San Miguel (Mexico). I just loved the shadows cast by the tall buildings in the center of town (El Centro). Also, there's only foot traffic in some areas, which is pretty much heaven for a people painter like me. : )

I took a bunch of photos when I was in San Francisco last time, in the evening. My camera (any camera) is sadly incapable of capturing that magical light. This is my first attempt at ... faking it. Second actually. If I'm honest.

Carol

Carol Marine's Painting a Day

  CAROL MARINE'S PAINTING A DAY  10/26/18

Click Here to Bid - 8x8in. - "On a Serious Note"

I took the reference for this in Germany this summer. I wasn't sure how I was going to handle the background (which I didn't like in the photos), until suddenly ... I did! Is it just me, or do you sometimes get into a certain frame of mind where everything seems possible and good? This is in sharp contrast to the frame of mind where everything seems stupid and impossible, which, I hate to say, seems to happen more frequently. But right now, goodness prevails!!

Click Here to Bid - 6x6in. - "Piggy Pumpkin"

I have now officially bought 5 pumpkins this year: three to paint, one to carve, and one to make into pie. Yum.

  CAROL MARINE'S PAINTING A DAY  10/22/18

Click Here to Bid - 6x6in. - "Loaded Down"

I didn't have time to paint when I was in Mexico (San Miguel de Allende), but I took pictures whenever I could. Here's the first "scene" that caught my eye.

Click Here to Bid - 6x6in. - "Fruit Picking"

Here's another market scene from France. In case you'd like to see the reference photo (and even have a crack at it yourself) I put it up as a challenge photo on the Daily Paintworks challenge page last month. Anyone can submit (you don't have to be a member). I double dog dare you!

Carol Marine's Painting a Day

  CAROL MARINE'S PAINTING A DAY  10/19/18

Click Here to Bid - 6x6in. - "Hold on Tight"

ON BREAKS: I just got home from a (fabulous!!!) trip to San Miguel de Allende with two buds. It made me think about taking breaks, pros and cons. Here're the highlights:

The biggest con of course, is that I'm not working. I'm getting rusty. My best progress happens when I work consistently, every day if possible, or at least 5 days a week (rare for me this summer, alas!).

The biggest pro is that it is possible to bring home new ideas. I get re-inspired in new places, especially if I see art while I'm there (which I did). Another pro is that simply stepping away from my studio gives me a bigger perspective. It helps me re-focus on bigger goals, and I come home with a clear idea of what I need to do first.

Even though I didn't paint on this trip, and I did mostly touristy things, I took pictures while I walked. I look forward to sorting through them and seeing what I've got. Meanwhile, here (above) is a scene from France that I painted today, with (maybe you can't tell...) a slightly new tack.

And here are me and my peeps!

Click Here to Bid - 6x6in. - "Not a Contest"

For some reason when I saved this for the web it turned a little ... green. So imagine that pumpkin just a little more orange. And it's a competitive pumpkin. Just like I was (am) when I was a kid. I think maybe the phrase I heard the most was, "It's not a contest, Carol Jean." Harumph.

Carol
