Carol Marine's Painting a Day

This scene reminds me of the girls bathrooms when I was in high school. All the girls would crowd around the mirror to check hair and makeup. I avoided the bathroom unless absolutely necessary.

In other news, I just picked up book 8 from the printer!

I also re-printed most of my other little books (each a collection of 100 small paintings - my favorites from that year, or several years). Because I have limited storage space, I'm only going to carry 5 books at a time, so I am discontinuing books 1-3. You can get 4-8 in a bundle for a reduced price. And free shipping in the US!         ORDER BOOKS HERE

"Just Steps from the Courtyard"

And another little scene from France.

Carol Marine's Painting a Day

  CAROL MARINE'S PAINTING A DAY   11/27/17

Click Here to Bid - 8x8in. - "Parked in France"

This was based on another of my favorite photos from my time in France this year. I discovered this little scene just down the hill from the chateau we were living in, on a walk-around with some of my students.

The past few months I've been doing a lot of non-painting stuff. I've painted here and there, but yesterday I realized that I'm not going to grow as an artist unless I'm painting more often. Wait, I seem to remember a book mentioning this ... a book about ... daily painting? Maybe I should crack that again. Anyway.

So in re-devoting myself to art, I learned (again) that when you're rusty, it's good to gift yourself some "learning time." This could mean warm-ups, and/or it could simply mean a few "uglies." I've come to expect them, the uglies. I mean, they happen on a regular basis, but they happen often when we've been away a while. So expect it. And if it doesn't happen, yay! But if it does, you won't be disappointed, right? You'll just think, ok, here they are, it can only get better from here.

I'm re-posting this one because my buyer fell through. It happens every once in a while.

"One of Us?"

On this, the day before Thanksgiving, I'd like to express my gratitude for:
apples
glass
pretty much all things shiny
and you
for all your encouragement.
Thank you so much,
and happy Thanksgiving!

Carol Marine's Painting a Day

 CAROL MARINE'S PAINTING A DAY   11/18/17

"You Just Don't Understand, Mom!"

I found these two peppers at the grocery store the other day and this scene just popped into my head. Maybe it's the fact that I'm currently dealing with an almost teenager? Nah - couldn't be.

Click Here to Bid - 8x8in. "Shopping with Purpose"

This is one I started a couple of weeks ago and was interrupted halfway through. I stopped right in the middle of a VERY ugly stage, so it took me a while to get excited about it again. But I finally did, and while I fear I may have overworked it, I'm happy with the result.

In other news, I wanted to point you to an artist friend of mine who sells his larger landscapes in galleries for big $, but is currently letting go of some small gems on Daily Paintworks for peanuts. His name is Paul Kratter, and here is his website, and DPW gallery. I've mentioned him before because he's one of the organizers of the Sierra trips I go on sometimes, plus just an all around great guy!
