Carol Marine's Painting a Day

I am back from visiting my peeps in Texas and back to painting. The orange from this one I got from my good friend Annie Salness, who created a VERY cool  illustrated recipe calendar this year, and is now selling the paintings from it . They are 12x12", on cradled boards, and beautiful. A steal.

"Strolling Through the Market"

Here's a scene from a French market. Have I said before that it takes forever to paint anything with people in it? If I were a smart business person I would give them up. But then I believe that as an artist I have to paint what I'm excited about or else I will wither and die.

Carol Marine's Painting a Day

  CAROL MARINE'S PAINTING A DAY 12/17/17

I'm off to Texas for the holidays, so paintings won't be shipped until I get home (December 28th). I apologize for the inconvenience!

Here is one last bell pepper painting before we take off. So you know, because it helps me to know it of other people/artists, I posted the three paintings of peppers that worked, and didn't post three others that ... well, they uhhhh, didn't. My averages are usually a little better, but not a lot. And that's just the way it goes. I hope that helps.

Happy Holidays, and to all a New Year ... wait, that's not how it goes ... shoot.

Carol Marine's Painting a Day

  CAROL MARINE'S PAINTING A DAY 12/16/17

I'm off to Texas for the holidays, so paintings won't be shipped until I get home (December 28th). I apologize for the inconvenience!

Click Here to Bid - 6x6in. - "Stag Party"

These here are some tricky buggers to paint. First of all, they are all subtly different shades of orange. And then they are translucent. Which is the kicker. So the shadows are never as dark as they would be with a less translucent object. Maybe if I paint them enough times it will get easier...

Click Here to Bid - 6x6in. - "Golden Bells"

I've been using my daylight florescent bulb to light these guys. And yesterday mine suddenly ... died. They last years and so every time I go to find a new one, there is a whole different selection, and the one I had (and liked) is no longer available. Argh. But there is something soft (and kind to translucent things) that I like, so I keep getting them.

Carol Marine's Painting a Day

  CAROL MARINE'S PAINTING A DAY   12/5/17

Click Here to Bid - 6x6in. - "Laughing with Leaves"

An artist friend of mine, Julie Douglas, recently published a wonderful book called "Notes from the Atelier - Practical Steps to Successful Observation Drawing and Painting."

I haven't read the entire thing (because it's BIG and chock full!) but what I have read so far is wonderful! So if you or someone you know would like to learn to draw and/or paint (most of the exercises use watercolor), or need a refresher course, and can forgive Julie (British) for spelling the word "colour" wrong ; ), consider this book. You can't go wrong. (read more reviews...)
