Carol Marine's Painting a Day

Two workshops ago, a student of mine had one of these gorgeous golden trays. Apparently I exclaimed over it enough that she ended up sending me one for my very own after the workshop - thank you, Donna! I thought it would be a snap to compose with, but I actually had quite a hard time working it in. It took an hour or more to come up with this simple composition (then longer to actually paint it) - this after another attempt a few weeks ago went south. I still think I could do better, and will continue to try things with it. It's a challenge for sure!

Speaking of gifts, many thanks to Jan at my last workshop who gave me this little pig (and a bird, which you'll see later)! I will admit, the pig was pretty easy to work into the composition. He stepped right up to confront these apples, and that was that.

Carol Marine's Painting a Day

CAROL MARINE'S PAINTING A DAY   8/13/17

Click Here to Bid - 6x6in. - "Hey Green!"

I just wrapped up my last Eugene workshop for the year (btw I used the leftover apples for this painting above). My kids were so great I'm a little suspicious they were plants of some kind. I'm still not sure what the purpose was, but no one group can really be this nice and this hardworking. Here are a few photos of kids and their work.

And here are a few of them at the end of the day, exhausted. They were hamming it up a tiny bit, but really, that's how I found them. I guess my workshops are a bit like art boot camp, so what do I expect?!

And here's my class at the end, minus Molly, who had to leave early. Thank you for the birthday party you guys! I'll never forget #39!!

We go back to France for this one. And speaking of France, I am happy to announce that I will be teaching another workshop there next summer! We are not yet ready to open it up for registration, but you'll be the first to know.

Painting is hard. I can't tell you how often I'm halfway through and thinking, "Oh, this is going well!" And then I lose it. This one worked out, but I had 2 right before it that didn't. Ugh. I could do without the feeling that comes along with a painting de-railing.

Every time I choose a title for a painting, the first thing I do is check to see if I've used that particular one before. For this is my 2,564th daily painting. And that's a lot of titles. So I was surprised to find that I hadn't used this one yet.
