This is from a photo I took last spring in New York City. I just checked and I've already done 40 paintings from that trip alone. I definitely want to go back at some point. What a cool city!

Carol Marine's Painting a Day - "Good Company"

This is the last of the green apples (for now), done at the same angle as yesterday, but with different props. It may look spontaneous, but it took forever to get the composition and spacing just right! But that's not unusual. It always takes forever.

I changed the angle a bit for this one. Instead of looking down, I raised my box up a bit so they have more of a 3-dimensional feel. Don't ya think? I also used a different light - florescent, softer, not so much contrast.

The clouds rolled into Hood River, so I came home a tiny bit early. I'll post the paintings soon!

Carol Marine's Painting a Day - "The Shadow You Cast"

Here are some green apples I painted a few days before my trip. I definitely struggle getting the apples to pop when I use a light background. On the next couple of paintings you'll see me experimenting with different backgrounds.

I am (still) in Hood River as I write this. Apparently my friend Patti was not rattled by the fact that she's been eating/painting/rooming with a rule-breaker (see yesterday's post) - she assured me. And so we continue to get along.
