Carol Marine's Painting a Day

CAROL MARINE'S PAINTING A DAY   3/30/17

Click Here to Bid - 6x8in. - "Mature Gossip"

Here's another one from my New York City files. I decided to shoot for a kind of caricature of these ladies, and am really happy with how it turned out. Also I feel like the background successfully recedes. One of those two steps forward paintings, which is good because I've had some one step back paintings lately (didn't show you those).

These lemon slices are being paraded around before the cup. He is their potential husband. He's not quite sure yet who he'll choose, though they all have a certain glow.

Carol Marine's Painting a Day

CAROL MARINE'S PAINTING A DAY   3/27/17

Click Here to Bid - 6x8in. - "Groupies"

It might not look like it, but this scene was incredibly complex and hard to paint. That probably sounds funny, being that it's on a 6 by 8 inch panel. But so many of the color mixes had just slight variations in color and value. And there were so many of them! Not just the cups, but the reflections too. It took hours. And at the end I thought, "This is a mess!" So I put it up to dry and came back the next day. Sometimes you can't see how it all comes together until after you've recovered from the trauma. ; )

Click Here to Bid  - 6x6in. - "Absorbed"

I spotted this guy in NYC, in the park behind the downtown library, when I was there several years ago. I really need to visit again! Someday soon I'm going to run out of reference material.

Carol Marine's Painting a Day

CAROL MARINE'S PAINTING A DAY   3/25/17

Click Here to Bid - 6x6in. - "See You See Me"

I'm always striving for compositions that are...simple yet complex, and I really felt like this one achieved that. Not that it will seem that way to every/any-one else. For me this "simplexity" is hard to create! Much harder than you might expect. Especially when you are doing it every day.

Click Here to Bid  - 6x8in. - "Spring Fling"

And now for something completely different. I found a patch of these lovely, sun dappled flowers in a Seattle neighborhood on a previous visit. Honestly I can't remember if it was spring or summer, so I apologize if the title doesn't fit.

This is also my example painting for the  Daily Paintworks Spring Challenge. Want to paint your idea of spring? Come join us!

Carol Marine's Painting a Day

CAROL MARINE'S PAINTING A DAY   3/23/17

Click Here to Bid - 6x6in. - "Crowded Corner"

I've got two very different subjects for you today. Apples and rocks.

Click Here to Bid  - 8x8in. - "Sweet Creek"

Above is one of my favorite places to go in the summer - Sweet Creek. There are a series of small waterfalls all leading to a larger one, and instead of taking the trail, I like to wade in the water and climb up the waterfalls, taking pictures all the way. The whole thing takes me a couple of hours, and then 15 minutes to get back on the trail. Since it's not quite summer here yet, I painted this one from a photo.
