That's why I've been posting some old work. Nothing was seeming to gel and I was getting more and more frustrated. It happens! I have learned to accept it as part of the process, though the acceptance comes and goes too. : ) Anyway, I did this painting as I was clawing my way back out of the valley of doom. Just kidding. : ) We're back to small. Someday I would love to find some giant brushes and paint a humongous panel, but that will have to wait until I have more presence of mind. And some good brushes. And I suppose I'll have reinforce the back of the panel... my blog my website  my DPW gallery my book panel holders email me    CAROL MARINE'S PAINTING A DAY "Hippo Watching" - 12x24 in -  click to bid & to zoomify                  I had this idea forever ago of taking the video camera and taping a scene in order to be able to pick and choose the particular still to paint. Often with a regular camera I miss the best shots because I can't shoot quick enough! So I took the video camera to the zoo when we still lived in Texas. I quickly learned the trick was to stand still! But I got some great shots in the hippo room (do you see him?). I remember when I arranged it, I had everything but the red tea bag and felt it still needed something. I think I tried every single other object in my studio before I realized a tea bag would be perfect! And this may seem completely obvious, but it occurred to me that there is absolutely no formula for good art. You can follow every rule of thumb you've ever heard, but you are still not guaranteed a good painting. I did a few larger paintings a number of months ago, and this is one of them. It is 12x12 inches. I used to do them on a regular basis - about once a week  - but haven't lately. I have to admit with all the teaching I feel like I get home, paint a little, and then I'm off again, so I haven't had the energy for larger work. BUT now that I'm into it I am finding it hard to stop! This will be the first time I've posted anything as large as this for sale here. Can I say a thing inspired me and then have that thing be plural? The thing (one thing) ... and then multiple shadows? Was that a complete sentence? Am I allowed to be flexible with grammar after 8PM and one glass of wine?
