My favorite part of the photo for this painting was ... that tiny little curly thing at the bottom (left). So of course I had to include it.

On another note, summer has gotten off to a busy start, and I don't expect it to slow down anytime soon. Between visitors and trips, I've barely had a moment to think. I certainly won't be posting every day, but I'll post (and paint) as often as I can!

What this view actually consisted of was Alcatraz up on that distant hill/island. I decided to simplify it. These guys deserve a break.

Carol Marine's Painting a Day - "Light in the City"

These little scenes from the city (this one's San Fran again) are WAY harder than still life for me. They take longer and my ratio of paintings that work out to those that don't are lower. I seem to be really terrible at guessing ahead of time which photos are going to make good paintings and which aren't. That said, I like this one. I like the stripey building at the end.

This is from a scene at a San Francisco farmers market. I really liked the small pops of color surrounded by all the gray. And speaking of pops of color, tonight my stepdaughter and I picked up our first batch of fused glass for jewelry (below). We learned a lot from this batch and already put in a whole 'nother one. So fun!

Carol Marine's Painting a Day - "Man with Plants"

The photo for this one came from our local Saturday market, and while I loved the guy with his plants, the background was impossibly complicated. I decided to really sketch it in with some darks, but when I was done it looked a little too simple. I added a few colors to break it up. Did it work?
