 I keep trying to paint folds. For this one I squinted really hard and tried to think of it as just shapes and values, not folds. It really helped get the values right. Please note: I won't be able to ship paintings until the first of July. I apologize for the inconvenience. | |||

 After much consideration I've decided NOT to bring my computer with me to Colorado. So, if you email me, please understand I won't be able to respond at all until around the end of June. And I won't be able to ship any paintings until then either. I've preposted for what I think will be the entire time I'm gone (unless things go awry or we decide to stay longer).  I know this is a common theme for me - the cup with something across it, the whole thing cropped and then something below it. But I land on it over and over. I love the spoon shadow going into the cup and continuing on either side. I used to feel bad for doing similar compositions over and over, but then I realized since I do a painting every day, it would be tough not to. Am I right? | |||

 Cherries are in season again - wahoo! I'll be leaving on Wednesday for Colorado. I'm driving up to paint with a couple of buddies of mine for a week. I've heard I should be able to schedule posts ahead of time, and since I'm ahead with my paintings and won't have reliable internet I thought I'd try that. I know it won't be as ... cool, but it's what I've got. | |||

 Whenever I return to still lifes after a trip I always have a day or two of frustration. I'm usually a little grumpy, and my husband has learned to make a wide berth. I did this one a few days after we returned from Germany and afterwards I walked back into the house smiling. I said to my husband "I remembered how to paint!" He said "you look like you just had a paint-gasm." Below are my demos from last week. I apologize for the terrible photos. We had one day of plein air, and I was shaking in my boots getting ready for the demo. I was walking around before class trying to find a spot that I was not only inspired by, but had enough room for the whole class to watch. A fellow saw me with my viewfinder and asked if I was taking photos. : ) I said no, I was looking for a place to paint and he said "use my yard!" I think he meant for us to paint his flowers, but I was captivated by the jeep across the street and leaning garage behind it and it all worked out splendidly, all from this nice fellow's yard. Whew!  | |||

 Sorry I didn't post for a whole week!! Above you'll see a cool little polka-dotted espresso cup I found in Germany and couldn't live without. Honestly I can't wait to paint it again and again. We had a fabulous workshop last week in Newburyport, MA. We painted in a beautiful old building that was ... well, not quite light enough in every corner but perfect in every other way. Here's a group of kids painting away:  And a couple more in full concentration mode:   And here's the whole group. Don't let their cute little faces fool you, they were troublemakers just like all the rest of them. : ) But we had fun and I was sorry to see them all disperse at the end.
